Former Vice President Joe Biden warned that Americans “are in a battle for the soul of this nation.”

His comments came as he spoke to the Lantos Foundation on Wednesday and were included in a report by The Washington Times.

Biden blamed U.S. “leadership” for the rise in hate crimes across the U.S. and cited a report from the Anti-Defamation League that said anti-Semitic incidents increased by almost 50 percent last year.

“It’s not an accident,” he said. “Our leadership is giving license to this prejudice.”

Biden is currently considering making a run for the White House in 2020. He recently said he is the “most qualified” person to run against President Donald Trump.
