Democrats' opposition to President Donald Trump's call for a border wall shows they'd rather stop his agenda than keep the country safe, Rep. Jim Jordan said Friday.

"This is common sense," the Ohio Republican and Freedom Caucus member told Fox News' "America's Newsroom," while complaining that top Democrats, such as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have voted for wall funding in the past.

The left, he added, is "more focused on stopping the president than they are in helping their country," and he agrees with Trump that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should get rid of a filibuster rule requiring 60 votes to pass bills, as the GOP still holds a Senate majority.

However, Republicans already hold a slim majority and retiring Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., has already returned home and new members won't be sworn in until January.

Jordan said he does not know if Democrats might be more inclined to vote for the wall funding House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was not seeking the speaker's seat.

"What I do know is the radical position the Democrat party is unfortunately taking," said Jordan.

"The standard bearer for their party in 2016, Secretary [Hillary] Clinton talked about a borderless hemisphere.. . Now here we have a simple $5 billion for a border security wall that we know works, that is common sense, and they won't support this."
