Rep. Jim Himes insisted Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller will be subpoenaed to testify before Congress soon, but said he'll probably end up testifying behind closed doors.
“Two things to say: Number one, it’s going to happen. He will get subpoenaed,” the Connecticut Democrat told MSNBC's "Morning Joe," adding that the House Intelligence Committee has "a profound interest" in hearing "something we have not heard nearly enough."
His comments came after show host Joe Scarborough shouted at him that Mueller wasn't finishing the job he was paid to do.
“I want to know why Robert Mueller thinks he’s above coming to Capitol Hill and testifying for Americans?" Scarborough said. "It’s outrageous! I want to know something else, Jim. Why don’t you subpoena him? This is absolutely ridiculous.”
Himes, a member of the Intelligence Committee, told Scarborough that Mueller has already said his testimony is in his report, but as the show host had pointed out, not many people have read the full document.
Himes also commented on the ongoing investigation into last week's attacks on two oil tankers, saying he couldn't give specifics on what he's seen, "this is not a situation like in 2002, where people were saying it's a slam dunk and there was absolutely nothing there."
He added that there is no question Iran is acting in a more aggressive way and is "preparing for a conflict."
"Where Iran is today is a function of the fact that the president tore up the Iran nuclear deal," said Himes. "I thought hard about that deal before I voted for it. But we used to be in a world where war was out of the question."
