President Donald Trump's "general message" was with his complaints about Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar and their comments on Israel, but went a bit too far with his comments about Jewish voters being disloyal to Israel and to other Jewish people if they vote for Democrats, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday.

"He has a tendency to go about 10% too far," Gingrich told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Disloyalty has nothing to do with it. It is a matter of judgment."

It's fair to say Democratic Party "radicals" stand for the elimination of Israel as a country," said Gingrich, and he thinks that will create "ultimately a pretty profound civil war in the Democratic Party."

"I get very nervous when we start getting into issues of loyalty and disloyalty," Gingrich said. "You can have a sincere, honest disagreement and not have it affect whether or not you are loyal...we can have an honest straight up debate about why the Democratic party is tolerating a group of people that are deeply anti-Israel and deeply anti-Semitic, and we don't have to go into loyalty about America."

Also on Thursday, Gingrich said he believes the Trump administration is convinced there will not be a recession in the near future, but he does think the back and forth on whether there would be payroll tax cuts came because Trump "wavers in part based on the news media coverage."

"They started looking at what tools they have...they are sort of putting them back and holding them in case in 2020 or 2021, they need to look at them," said Gingrich.
