House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., appeared to faint on Friday while at a press conference in Manhattan with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, The New York Times reports.

Nadler, who is 71, put his head down on the podium during the conference, which took place around noon at a public school, and became pale. The congressman had spoken 30 minutes earlier, making some brief remarks before de Blasio talked about the expansion of the city’s speed camera program.

A person on the PA system announced, “code blue in the gymnasium,” as the congressman was seated near the mayor. Doctors were soon tending to Nadler, an ambulance was called, and the gymnasium was cleared.

De Blasio, appearing concerned, talked to Nadler in an attempt to keep him alert, according to the New York Post. The congressman was given an orange and a bottle of water, and appeared to recover after the doctors’ treatment. He was taken to a hospital about 12:45 p.m., according to the Times.

A spokesperson for Nadler told NBC New York that the congressman “is OK. Seems to have been dehydrated and it was very warm in the room. He is now responsive and receiving a check-up.”
