President Donald Trump is "secretly watching CNN all day and all night," CNN President Jeff Zucker said, according to The Hill.
"It’s pretty clear from his comments and tweets that he knows fully well what CNN is doing," Zucker told ITK on Tuesday night before a screening of the network’s new documentary miniseries "1968" at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
As both a candidate and as president, Trump has been harshly critical of CNN, using it as one of his favorite targets of what he claims is "fake news."
Zucker, in turn, has called Trump a danger. In March, Zucker said the president "has created an atmosphere in this country that has resonated around the world in a very unhealthy way that has whipped up anti-media sentiment that is dangerous and frankly harmful and potentially incredibly dangerous," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The CNN president added that "He doesn't even understand the danger he's causing to journalists and the danger he's doing to media organizations."
Zucker also has lashed out at competitor Fox News for being blindly pro-Trump, saying it "is really state-run TV. It is a pure propaganda machine, and I think does incredible disservice to this country."
This past November Zucker gave Trump a backhanded compliment, saying "The one thing I know for sure is that Donald Trump has made American journalism great again," according to The Hill.
Zucker emphasized that "CNN's been around for 37 years, this is the most-watched year in the history of CNN on television. We'd be at the top if there were global rankings."
A Trump tweet at that time slamming CNN actually hinted at what Zucker touted regarding its global audience.
