The publisher of former FBI Director James Comey's upcoming book is taking extraordinary precautions to protect the contents of the memoir prior to its release, Politico is reporting.
The book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership," is due out on April 18.
The publisher, Flatiron Books, is not circulating multiple drafts of the book among editors and agents working the project. Instead, only those involved in the book's release will work through a password-protected electronic system to gain access, according to Politico.
The book is kept under a code name so only staffers involved will know where to find it. Workers at the warehouses where the book will be stored are being asked to sign nondisclosure agreements, unnamed Politico sources said.
The book is promising "never-before-told experiences from some of the highest stakes situations of (Comey's) career."
Comey already has been interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller.
"But any revelations, combined with a high-profile media tour, where he talks about troubling interactions with the president, is without a doubt going to have an impact with the public," said Matthew Miller, who was a spokesman for the Justice Department under President Barack Obama.
"And then there's the X factor of whether (President Donald) Trump gets so angry that he does something rash, or takes some action, in response."
Comey's first interview about the book is set for April 15 on ABC's "20/20"
