The publisher of James Comey’s new memoir, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership," is printing an extraordinary amount of copies for its initial run.
CNN reports that Flatiron, a division of publishing giant Macmillan, is printing some 850,000 copies of the book in which Comey bares details of his troubled relationship with President Donald Trump, who fired the ex-FBI director last May.
As a comparison, the initial print run of Michael Wolff's book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," published by Henry Holt, also a division of MacMillan, was only 150,000 copies.
"This is the largest first printing we've done so far this year," Macmillan president Don Weisberg told CNNMoney.
Comey's book also is at the top of Amazon's best-sellers list.
The former G-man will likely see his book selling like hotcakes as he kicks off a nationwide book tour on Sunday with an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News’s’ "20/20," excerpts of which have been running on "Good Morning America."
The release of the book poses a quandary for Trump, who has been incessantly blasting Comey in recent days, calling him and "untruthful slime bag" on Friday. If Trump continues to make comments, the publicity could help Comey sell even more books.
Comey’s upcoming TV and radio appearances include ABC’s "Good Morning America” and "The View," NPR’s "Morning Edition’’ and "Fresh Air," CBS’s "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," CNN’s "The Lead with Jake Tapper," and MSNBC’s "The Rachel Maddow Show."
