An increased threat from missiles fired by the Hezbollah terror group has forced Israel to change the design of four of its warships in production.
According to Defense News, the ships are being made in Germany and will be outfitted with two Iron Dome launchers instead of one. Iron Dome is the Israeli military's air defense system that is designed to shoot down short-range rockets.
An unnamed senior officer in the Israeli Navy told Defense News the growing Hezbollah arsenal is cause for concern.
"Because of this growing threat, we're adding another [Iron Dome] launcher on the Sa'ar-6," the officer said, referencing the Blohm+Voss Class 130 corvette ships.
Each Iron Dome launcher fitted on the ship will be able to fire 20 Tamir intercepting missives each, according to the report.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the UN concluded last summer that Hezbollah has 17 times as many missiles as it did 10 years ago.
Another report this week claimed that Hamas now has a high-powered rocket that has more explosive that previous versions, which has Israel worried.
