Dealmaker Trump: Iran Deal Is a 'Bad Deal'

By    |   Monday, 25 November 2013 01:15 PM EST

Business mogul Donald Trump predicted Monday that "nothing good" would come of the U.S.-negotiated arrangement with Iran aimed at halting its nuclear development program.

"This will not be good. Nothing good is going to come from what just happened," Trump said on "Fox & Friends." "It's a bad deal for everyone, other than Iran."

The entertainment and real estate billionaire said the United States should continue tough sanctions against Tehran, even adding new ones, until "we've got the kind of deal that we have to get" — meaning Iran's verifiable agreement to destroy facilities being used to enrich uranium and produce nuclear weapons.

Over the weekend, the United States, joined by some of its allies, agreed to a six-month arrangement with Iran that calls for easing of some economic sanctions in return for Tehran's promise to freeze its nuclear activities and allow international monitors to verify.

It also calls for the parties to reconvene to work out other steps the Obama administration thinks can lead to a comprehensive agreement that would end Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.

But Trump, who wrote "The Art of the Deal," all but called the negotiations that led to the arrangement a joke, saying they showed "our country doesn't make great deals anymore."

"If you're going to make a deal, you make a deal. You don't make a deal, and then we're going to come back to the table and negotiate the really tough parts of the deal in six months," Trump said.

"I love the concept of making a deal with Iran, but it's got to be the right deal. We had the power, and we have the power, but . . . we're so desperate to make it. We're trying so hard. And, you can't make deals that way," he said, referring to the loosening of sanctions.
