Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill on Monday emphatically denied groping several women at an Indianapolis bar and said he has been unfairly condemned and will not step down.

"I am now being called upon to resign by the governor and others . . . I wish he had reached out to me regarding these accusations before rushing to judgment," Hill, a married father of five, said at a press conference, The Indianapolis Star and NBC26.com report.

Hill said his reputation has been "dragged through the gutter" and called himself a condemned man because he has been "condemned without trial, condemned without notice, condemned without the benefit of any basic rights that ensure fairness."

One of the women accusing Hill of inappropriate touching at a legislative end-of-session party at AJ's Lounge last March 15th is Democratic State Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon, who responded after Monday's press conference:

"Curtis Hill, through his actions has betrayed the public trust, and lied about his actions to the very citizens he serves. I will continue to cooperate with any and all investigations into this matter until such a time that Curtis Hill is held accountable for his abhorrent behavior."

Gov. Eric Holcomb, Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma, and outgoing Senate President Pro Tem David Long have asked Hill to resign. Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane has also called on Hill to step down.

Hill said the "calls for my resignation are unwarranted. And those calls should be rescinded."
