Some 100 protesters demonstrating outside a New York City Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office were arrested Saturday after they shut down a major Manhattan roadway, CBS New York reported.
Carrying signs reading “Abolish ICE” and “Close the Camps,” demonstrators said they held the protest in anger at the recent high-profile immigration enforcement raids at processing plants in Mississippi.
Demonstrator Miriam Bernstein told CBS New York that “We are protesting the camps at the border and the children being separated from their parents.”
Organizers of the protest wrote that "We DEMAND an end to all detention and separation of families at the border and everywhere. We DEMAND dignity, respect, and permanent protection for all undocumented immigrants," according to
CNN.
Those arrested were charged with disorderly conduct and released, The Hill reported.
The demonstration came after several others protests nationwide against several Trump administration policies which are targeting undocumented immigrants.
