Two more tropical storms have formed in the Atlantic Ocean, with one expected to become a Category 1 hurricane before its expected impact in the Caribbean, CNN reported Saturday.
Tropical Storm Lee formed earlier in the day but is expected to fade to a tropical depression while Maria, formed later Saturday, should gain strength through the weekend and become a hurricane by late Monday according to forecasters.
Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are under tropical storm watches while Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis and Montserrat are under hurricane watches.
Hurricane Irma last weekend ravaged Barbuda, leaving the island uninhabitable.
"For the first time in 300 years, there's not a single living person on the island of Barbuda -- a civilization that has existed in that island for close to, over 300 years has now been extinguished,” Ronald Sanders, the Antigua and Barbuda ambassador to the United States, told Public Radio International.
Hurricane Jose, which also formed in the Atlantic, may threaten the Northeast next week. The storm, which had maximum sustained winds of nearly 80 mph, was 550 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
