Hugh Hewitt says one way of stopping school shootings is to ban students from wearing trench coats where firearms can be hidden.
“To the teachers and administrators out there, the trench coat is kind of a giveaway," conservative radio host said Monday on "The Hugh Hewitt Show," a clip of which was posted by Media Matters.
“You might just say no more trench coats. The creepy people, make a list, check it twice."
Hewitt’s suggestion came as the nation wrestles with how to stop the ongoing carnage on school campuses, the latest being in Santa Fe High School in Texas, where 8 students and two teachers were shot dead last week.
He said he does not see a ban on guns because of the Constitutional right to bear arms.
"It is a Second Amendment right, it’s not a Second Amendment suggestion. It’s as fundamental to the republic as free speech and freedom of religion and due process, and the right to be safe and secure in your own home."
