Americans just want to know what they've witnessed over the last two years with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, considering significant questions weren't asked about Hillary Clinton and her "cohorts," White House principal deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said Friday.
"The American people deserve to know just how this got started," Gidley told Fox News' "America's Newsroom," while commenting on President Donald Trump's decision to give Attorney General William Barr full power to investigate the Russia probe's origins."
There were lies told about the evidence leading to the investigation, said Gidley, and now the question is if the spying that took place on members of Trump's team could happen to any American citizen.
"I think the American people want to know just what they witnessed for the last two years," said Gidley. "Listen, they lied about all this evidence, and there was no proof of it … 2,500 subpoenas, 500 witnesses, 500 warrants, 19 attorneys, 40 FBI agents? At some point you have to figure out, what did we spend all this $30 million on? The answer is, nothing."
Meanwhile, Democrats are wasting America's time on "nonsense," said Gidley, and there has been no proof of collusion or a cover-up on Trump's part.
"It is completely ridiculous the fantasy world these Democrats live in," he said. "For us at the White House, we want to get things done for the American people and, quite frankly, it's tough [when] Democrats are so entrenched on lies."
