Rep. Collins on House Judiciary Subpoenas: 'Circus Continues'

(Fox News' "America's Newsroom")

Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, on Thursday described actions taken by the Democratic-led panel as "politics at its most desperate."

Collins was asked by Fox News' "America's Newsroom" host Bill Hemmer whether he thought any of the 12 witnesses likely to be subpoenaed by the committee related to its probe of the Trump administration would show up to testify.

"The circus continues. This has become nothing but a circus show for the last six months," Collins said. "And I'm really beginning to wonder if the chairman [Jerrold Nadler] and maybe other parts of the Democratic side slept through law school when they were to determine what a subpoena actually is."

The committee authorized subpoenas Thursday for former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the president's son-in-law and White House adviser, Jared Kushner, and 10 others.

Collins suggested many of the subpoenas were proposed because Democrats had "a bad couple of weeks in the press."

"What's really interesting is [that] many of these people have never been contacted before. This is the very first time they've even been contacted," he said. "This is simply because [the Democrats] had a bad couple of weeks in the press when they left here on immigration and other things, and they're trying to retake the narrative. And they're doing so by subpoenas."
