Hillary Clinton Friday called on Charlotte police to release "without delay" the video of the fatal shooting of an African-American man that has sparked three nights of protests in North Carolina's largest city.

Here's the Democratic nominee's post on Twitter:

Attorneys for the family of Keith Lamont Scott, 43, released cellphone video of Tuesday's shooting taken by his wife, Rakeyia Scott.

The footage, obtained by NBC News, does not show the actual shooting — but it includes the voices of officers ordering Keith Scott to drop a gun, sounds of shots fired, and the body of Scott being tended to by officers.

Rakeyia Scott can also be heard on the video saying: "Don't shoot him. He has no weapon. He doesn't have a gun."

Whether Keith Scott had a gun remains an issue in the case.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said Thursday that the video he has seen did not definitely show him "actually holding and pointing a gun at an officer."

However, Putney said he would not release the footage because "I have to do what I can to protect the integrity of the investigation."

Scott's death has led to three nights of protests in Charlotte — and Gov. Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency Wednesday after the second night of violence, calling out the National Guard.

Demonstrations were peaceful Thursday night, leading Mayor Jennifer Roberts to suspend a midnight curfew that ended at 6 a.m. Friday.

"I do believe the video should be released," Roberts, a Democrat, told The Associated Press on Friday. "The question is on the timing."

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, the only African-American Republican in the upper chamber, said Thursday that "the releasing of the video can diffuse some of the tension if what we will see on the video is helpful."
