Outgoing Sen. Harry Reid will receive a bipartisan sendoff next week as he prepares to retire from public office.
According to Politico, Reid — who has served in the chamber since 1987 and before that served in the House for four years — will give a farewell speech next Thursday morning. In the evening, a reception will be held in the Kennedy Caucus Room at the Russell Senate Office Building.
Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Vice President Joe Biden, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will be there, along with Republicans such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
McConnell, who has a history of disagreeing with Reid on many issues, will speak about him. A portrait of Reid will be unveiled too, Politico notes.
Reid has been critical of Republicans during much of his career, particularly in the months leading up to November's presidential election. He has blasted President-elect Donald Trump several times, during the campaign and after it.
After Trump's victory, Reid blamed FBI director James Comey for being a "Republican operative." Comey announced days before the election he was taking another look at Clinton's email case, an act that Reid said turned off many of her voters.
Clinton also blamed Comey for her defeat.
