RNC's Gruters: GOP Congress Key to Advancing Trump Agenda

By    |   Wednesday, 31 December 2025 04:41 PM EST

Joe Gruters, chair of the Republican National Committee, said Wednesday that President Donald Trump's ability to fully implement his America First agenda hinges on Republicans securing control of Congress as he urged GOP voters to stay focused heading into the 2026 midterm elections.

In a post on X, Gruters pointed to what he described as swift Republican action after Trump returned to office, arguing that the party has already demonstrated its capacity to govern when unified.

"From swearing in President Trump, to making America respected again, and to the historic tax cuts for working families, Republicans have not wasted a single minute delivering for the American people," Gruters said.

Gruters, a longtime Trump ally and former Florida GOP chairman, framed the coming year as a pivotal moment for the party, saying momentum must be sustained if Republicans want to lock in long-term policy victories.

As 2025 draws to a close, he said, the focus is shifting from early accomplishments to the broader challenge of ensuring Trump has the legislative support needed to advance his priorities.

"But as 2025 comes to an end, we look forward to the year ahead and the opportunity to keep moving in the right direction," Gruters said.

"We want to give President Trump a full four years to implement his America First agenda, but he needs a Republican Congress to do that."

Gruters' message underscores a core Republican argument heading into the midterms: that divided government stalls conservative reforms, while unified GOP control accelerates them.

Republicans have long maintained that Trump's agenda, including border security, tax reform, deregulation, and a more assertive foreign policy, requires congressional backing to be fully realized.

The RNC leader also emphasized the political stakes of 2026, calling on supporters to begin organizing now to elect Republicans up and down the ballot.

"I look forward to working with all of you to elect Republicans in 2026 and delivering another year of big wins for the American people," he wrote.

Gruters closed his post on an optimistic note, signaling confidence in Trump's leadership and the party's future.

"Happy New Year, everyone — and remember, the best is yet to come."
