Internet search engine giant Google reportedly has fired 48 people over the past two years for sexual harassment – including 13 who were “senior managers and above.”
None got cushy exit packages, insisted Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Pichai announced the firings in an email Thursday to employees that pushed back at a bombshell New York Times report alleging a handful of executives, including Android creator Andy Rubin, were shielded from sexual misconduct accusations -- and got fat payouts to leave.
The email was posted by CNBC.
The Times story was "difficult to read,” Pichai wrote, adding that Google was "dead serious" about providing a "safe and inclusive workplace."
"We want to assure you that we review every single complaint about sexual harassment or inappropriate conduct, we investigate and we take action," he wrote.
In the email, Pichai also said there were newer tools at Google that employees can use to report sexual harassment or misconduct – and anonymously if they choose.
