Rudy Giuliani blasted a reported FBI investigation into whether President Donald Trump had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests.
The New York Times had reported that the investigation began in the days after Trump had fired James Comey as FBI director in May 2017.
Giuliani, who now serves as Trump’s lawyer, made his comments in a Tuesday tweet.
He wrote: “Still no one asking what was conclusion of the phony counter intelligence investigation. It could not have merged into the (Robert) Mueller obstruction investigation unless firing Comey imperiled national security. Gee Hillary (Clinton) wanted to fire Mueller. Maybe she’s under investigation? NoWay!”
Regarding his reference to Hillary Clinton, it was unclear whether he intended to say she wanted to fire Mueller or whether he meant Comey.
The Times had reported U.S counterintelligence investigators had attempted to assess whether Trump’s actions constituted a possible threat to national security.
