Gerard Araud, France's ambassador to the U.S., tweeted criticism on Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, of the United States and the United Kingdom for the countries' actions in World War II.

Araud deleted the tweet, but not before a number of users slammed his message, according to the Washington Examiner.

Araud followed up with another tweet, saying that France had to pay for "awful mistakes" committed by the U.S., France, and the United Kingdom in the 1930s.

The ambassador then noted that France was "immensely grateful" for the U.S.' actions during the war.
