ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos was more deeply engaged in the Clinton Foundation than he has previously disclosed,
The Washington Post reported.
The "This Week" host also served in roles for the Clinton Global Initiative as a volunteer, working as a moderator and judge for an awards program, the Post said.
Stephanopoulos,
noted Politico, had been a regular at CGI events for a nearly dozen years.
Stephanopoulos is under fire for his failure to disclose $75,000 in contributions to the Clinton Foundation, all the while covering it for his news network. He defended his participation, noting his contributions were offered "in support of the work they’re doing on global AIDS prevention and deforestation, causes I care about deeply," Politico said.
He has apologized and removed himself from his role as a moderator for an upcoming GOP presidential debate,
Fox News reported.
His impartiality has always raised GOP hackles even as he has worked for ABC since 1997. They viewed him as the Clinton's hatchet man after he served on Bill Clinton's White House communications team,
The New York Times noted, of the relationship as Hillary Clinton makes her own presidential bid.
