- The position of women (61 percent), the condition of the economy (55 percent) and the acceptance of gays and lesbians (54 percent) were the only other issues that registered at least 50 percent satisfaction.
- The public is the least satisfied with the nation's campaign finance laws (20 percent), followed by its efforts to deal with poverty and homelessness (25 percent), the state of race relations (30 percent) and the availability of affordable health care (31 percent).
- There was a 6 percentage-point drop in satisfaction with the current level of immigration into the country, which now stands at 34 percent.
- Republicans are generally much more satisfied than Democrats, with the largest partisan gaps in satisfaction occurring on views of gun policy (49 percentage points), the position of blacks and other racial minorities (44 points), the environment (43 points), the economy (43 points) and the role of the U.S. in international affairs (40 points).
The poll was conducted from Jan. 2-10 and included 1,017 people, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
