Russia sanctions will not be on the agenda when foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) meet on Sunday in Toronto, The Hill reported.
The G7, comprised of representatives from the U.S., Canada, Germany,
Britain, France, Italy and Japan, will instead look for ways to keep pressure on Russia, as well as Iran and North Korea, over their nuclear weapons programs.
The meeting takes place just days after the group condemned the chemical poisoning of a Russian spy and his daughter in the U.K. Many officials point to Russia as being behind the poisoning, but Moscow has denied involvement in the attack.
The decision to refrain from imposing further economic sanctions against Russia also follows the U.S.-led strike on Russian ally Syria against targets in the country days after a chemical weapons attack on Syrian citizens.
President Donald Trump tamped down the possibility of further U.S. sanctions against Russia following last week's attack in Syria after Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, announced preparations were underway for a new round of penalties against the Kremlin.
