Former Olympics doctor Larry Nassar has been moved out of a federal penitentiary in Arizona after being attacked by fellow prisoners, The Detroit News reports.
The ex-physician, convicted of sexual misconduct and possession of child pornography, is now being held at an Oklahoma facility and likely will be transferred to a new federal penitentiary, the newspaper said.
According to court documents, Nassar was assaulted within hours of being released into the general population of the United State Penitentiary, Tucson, a high-security prison in Arizona.
Nassar, a former doctor for Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics treated many top Olympics gymnasts. He is now serving three consecutive prison sentences that will keep him behind bars for life.
Nassar has been named in hundreds of lawsuits filed by athletes who said he sexually abused them under the pretense of providing medical treatment.
Last month at the ESPY Awards, more than 140 survivors of sexual abuse by Nassar joined hands on stage as they were honored with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.
