Border agents apprehended more than 92,000 migrants trying to sneak into the country in March — continuing a surge of illegal crossings at the southern border, statistics released Tuesday by Customs and Border Protection showed.
The CBP report showed the March figure of 92,607 follows a February jump in apprehensions of 66,884.
According to the data, the biggest leap was among "family units" — groups of migrants traveling with children. The number of arrests of family units rose from 36,531 in February to 53,077 in March.
The new figures come a day after the departure of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen — who’s overseen the Trump administration's response to the crisis — was announced.
