Intel Expert Stern: US Student Group May Be Funding Hamas

By    |   Tuesday, 12 August 2014 07:36 PM EDT

A pro-Palestinian student group with campus chapters across North America appears to be funneling money to organizations that serve as fronts for the terrorist organization Hamas, the head of a private intelligence firm told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

Everett Stern, CEO of Tactical Rabbit, told "MidPoint" host Ed Berliner that his firm's investigation of Students for Justice in Palestine leads him to think the campus organization is helping to finance Hamas in violation of U.S. law.

Stern said he has forwarded his findings to federal law enforcement authorities and he's still awaiting a response.

"We're praying that they actually do something," he said, arguing that SJP and its allies "are an actual threat to national security."

Stern said SJP fundraising efforts benefit a handful of groups and foundations that are not just vocally supportive of Palestinians, but actively back Hamas — Israel's prime enemy in the blockaded Palestinian territory of Gaza, and a State Department-designated terror group.

Stern also charged that SJP itself is "literally a domestic terrorist organization."

"The leader of Students for Justice in Palestine — there's photos of him online actually in Gaza carrying an AK assault weapon and holding flags for [the Lebanon-based terrorist group] Islamic Jihad," said Stern. "That's not normal for a leader for a student organization."

Stern said that SJP has moved well beyond simple advocacy, with campaigns including a fundraising drive that sent "convoys into the Gaza Strip and actually met with Hamas leaders."

Students for Justice in Palestine also has run afoul of some of the colleges where it operates, according to Stern.

"Northeastern University [in Boston] shut them down for a short while, but then [university officials] felt extreme political pressure from the extreme left, and then they reinstated their charter," said Stern. "Same thing at Florida Atlantic University [in Boca Raton, Fla.]."

He said the FAU chapter of SJP once sent bogus "eviction notices" to Jewish students using the official seal of Palm Beach County, Fla., and that "police had to put a cease-and-desist order on them."

"That's not what a student organization does," said Stern.

He said that keeping pressure on campus administrators is key, and he urged parents to "notify their universities, where their kids are going, that Students for Justice in Palestine needs to be shut down."

Stern said that expelling SJP from campuses is not a violation of its members' First Amendment rights.

"I will defend anyone's right to say that they are huge supporter of Hamas, [and] they're the best organization on the planet," said Stern. "I'm all for that. But where the line has to be drawn is, when you take one penny and you send it over there, that's not freedom of speech. That's a federal offense."
