Senate Committee OKs Holder for Attorney General

Wednesday, 28 January 2009 11:32 AM EST

WASHINGTON – Eric Holder's nomination as the first African-American attorney general has moved to the full Senate with broad bipartisan support.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to favorably recommend Holder for the job.

The only senator who voted against Holder was Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. He criticized Holder's role in controversial pardons and questioned whether he would protect intelligence agents who participated in harsh interrogations.
