President Donald Trump is planning to invite French President Emmanuel Macron to Washington for an official state visit later this year, the first of his presidency, CNN reported.

A date has not been set; an announcement on the visit could come as soon as this week while Trump attends the World Economic Forum in Davos, CNN reported, citing unnamed diplomatic sources.

The White House told CNN it did not "have an announcement to make at this time."

The White House has hosted numerous world leaders but no official visits replete with an elaborate state dinner — the first such lapse in decades, CNN reported.
