Thirty-two percent of Democratic voters back former Vice President Joe Biden as he continues to lead the field of Democratic candidates, a new Morning Consult poll of Democratic primary voters reveals.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is in second place with 20% -- just edging out Sen. Bernie Sanders I-Vt.

Here is how the new poll breaks down:

  • 32% favor Biden
  • 20% support Warren
  • 19% back Sanders
  • 6% favor Sen. Kamala Harris of California
  • 5% support South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg

The poll, conducted Sept. 16-22, is based on interviews with 17,377 registered voters who indicated they may vote in the Democratic primary or caucus in their state. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percent.
