Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman allegedly drugged and raped girls as young as 13, according to U.S. federal court documents, The New York Times reported.
The documents detail allegations El Chapo, 61, considered the youngest girls "his vitamins," because raping them gave him "life," the Times reported.
"Joaquin denies the allegations," El Chapo's lawyer A. Eduardo Balarezo said in a statement Saturday, according to the Times.
The claims "lack any corroboration and were deemed too prejudicial and unreliable to be admitted at trial," he added, per the report. "It is unfortunate that the material was publicly released just prior to the jury beginning deliberations."
One of Guzman's former personal secretaries testified El Chapo would pay $5,000 to bring in the girls as young as 13 to him, sometimes slipping "a powdery substance" into their drinks before raping them.
Facing life in prison, El Chapo has been on trial since November on 10 charges, including engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, conspiracy to launder narcotics proceeds, international distribution of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and other drugs, and use of firearms. Jury deliberation begins Monday.
