Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., tossed aside his opening remarks during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on immigration and called on Democrats to provide proper funding to deal with the crisis at the southern border.
A video of his comment can be seen on his Twitter account.
“Look, I’m going to stop,” Collins said Thursday as he halted reading his statement. “I’m not going to read this.”
“You know what is dehumanizing?” he asked. “It’s continuing to bring the same witnesses from the same agencies to talk about this over and over and over again. What’s dehumanizing is doing that and then not doing anything about it. That’s what’s dehumanizing.”
Collins, the ranking member of the panel, said Democrats should “put a bill up.”
“Look, my Democratic colleagues have ideas,” he said. “I may disagree with those ideas, but put a bill up. I have a bill, put mine up. Make amendments to it. Do whatever you want to do. That’s what Congress is supposed to do. What’s dehumanizing is this.
Instead of debating bills, the committee is “having bash the president time,” he said.
