Dick Morris: Dems' 2016 'Third Alternative: Enter Joe Biden'

By    |   Thursday, 09 July 2015 09:19 PM

Political strategist and author Dick Morris thinks Vice President Joe Biden could be the Democrats' choice in the 2016 race for president.

During an interview on Newsmax TV's "The Hard Line," Morris tells host Ed Berliner he doesn't think Hillary Clinton or Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will go the distance.

"The Democrats will look at Sanders and say, 'Oh my God, he can't win, are we going to nominate him?' But then what are they going to do, go back to Hillary, who they used to support, but left? No, more likely they'll be looking for a third alternative. Enter Joe Biden," Morris says.

"Probably with Obama's covert support, certainly someone who can be relied upon to carry Obama's agenda forward. Valerie Jarrett and Michelle Obama have been quietly unloading on Hillary for months now in the hopes that she gets knocked down enough that Biden or [Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth] Warren can come into the race. They tried Warren overtly and she said no and now I think they're looking at Biden.

"The game here is knock Hillary, move up Bernie, get everyone scared to death that Bernie will be the nominee, and then rebound it to Biden."

Sanders has made up some ground on Clinton, according to polls in Iowa and New Hampshire. His surge promoted one Clinton aide to say, "of course we're worried."

A self-described socialist, Sanders is running for president on a far-left agenda, which appears to be working thus far.

Sanders even scored the endorsement of longtime New Hampshire political operative Dudley Dudley, seen as a crucial piece of the state's political game.

Morris tells Newsmax he thinks Sanders has a chance of beating Clinton in the New Hampshire primary next year, saying it's "certainly likely" to happen.
