Protesters Removed from House Gallery

Monday, 01 August 2011 04:05 PM EDT

WASHINGTON  — Protesters have been removed from the House spectators' gallery and arrested after causing a disturbance.

They began chanting Monday shortly after the House began debating a bill to resolve the debt-limit crisis.

Nearly a dozen demonstrators were shouting, "Boehner, get off it. It's time to tax corporate profits."

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, was not on the House floor at the time. Boehner has opposed any tax increases to help balance the federal budget.

Capitol Police officers quickly removed the demonstrators from the gallery, which overlooks the House floor.
