British intelligence officers got creative in their successful efforts to block the launch of an English-language version of the glossy jihad magazine Inspire. By embedding encoded cupcake recipes on the site, they were able to render the bomb-making recipes and other encoded content unintelligible, the Guardian reports.

The move was made a year ago as British and American intelligence officials were at odds on how to approach the publication. The British took the lead on the website, while the CIA allowed the print version to be published, purportedly because shutting it down would also shut down a key source of information for espionage purposes.

The United States, meanwhile, is devising a "world-class cyber warrior force,” as U.S. Army Lieutenant General Rhett Hernandez described it at a London military conference. The Department of Defense is also toying with the idea of making cyber attacks an act of war.
