Apple's new iPhone X is not the best the company has to offer, Consumer Reports says.
In fact, Consumer Reports rated the less expensive iPhone 8 and 8 Plus just ahead of it as a result of testing, and said those phones "proved hardier in a test designed to reproduce the drops and fumbles that can cause cracked screens and other damage."
"If not for the damage in that durability test, the iPhone X would have come in ahead of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus," said Richard Fisco, who heads smartphone testing at Consumer Report.
In Consumer Reports' list of recommended smart phones, the Samsung Galaxy S8 finished with a score of 82; the Samsung Galaxy S8+ scored 81; and the two iPhone 8s came in with 81. The iPhone X scored 80.
Consumer Reports praised the iPhone X as "an innovative device with a fantastic camera and beautiful display." However, it noted other phones are tougher and have longer battery life.
And it said: "Although, with so many phones being bunched near the top of our ratings, the iPhone X is still among the top scorers, even if it is not leading the pack."
The iPhone X went on sale in early November, according to CNN.
