Comcast is planning to introduce eye control to its X1 cable platform, allowing users to change channels and helping those with physical disabilities, according to The Verge.
The technology can pull up the programming guide, set the DVR, and navigate cable box menus using only their eyes, per the report.
"Technology is enabling me to be more independent," Comcast customer Jimmy Curran, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a neuromuscular disorder, explains in a company-shared YouTube video.
Popular eye gaze hardware and software from companies like Tobii is being used, per the report.
"We are pleased to see how Comcast continues to make their products and solutions accessible," Tobii president Tara Rudnicki told The Verge.
The technology is web-based, as customers set it up on Comcast's web-based remote and linking it to their account.
"From that point forward, each time the customer gazes at a button, the web-based remote sends the corresponding command to the television," according to Comcast.
