CNN Asks if Black Hole Explains Missing Jet

By    |   Thursday, 20 March 2014 09:28 AM EDT

CNN posed the question whether a black hole could explain why Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 went missing.

CNN anchor Don Lemon read a tweet to his guests Wednesday by a viewer who asked if the airplane could have been swallowed up by a black hole or the Bermuda Triangle. Other viewers likened the disappearance to the TV shows "Lost" and "The Twilight Zone," Mediaite reported.

"I know it's preposterous, but is it preposterous?" Lemon asked, directing the question to Mary Schiavo, former inspector general for the U.S. Transportation Department, for a comment on the theories.

"A small black hole would suck in our entire universe, so we know it's not that, the Bermuda Triangle is often weather and 'Lost' is a TV show," Shiavo said.

"I always like things for which there is data, history . . . so for me those aren't there [with these theories]," she said. "But I think it's wonderful that the whole world is trying to help with their theories."

"And I absolutely love the theories," she concluded.
