Sen. Coons: Soldiers Killed in Jordan Made Ultimate Sacrifice

By    |   Friday, 02 February 2024 03:16 PM EST

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., on Friday was among those attending the dignified transfer of the remains of three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers who were killed in a drone strike by Iranian-backed terrorists on Jan. 28.

"Today, I paid my solemn respects to the memories of Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Sgt. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Sgt. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation," Coons said in statement. "[His wife] Annie and I express our deepest condolences to their loved ones and promise to uphold our country's sacred commitment to their surviving family members.

"We thank the dedicated team at AFMAO [Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations], the Dover Air Force Base, and the volunteers who provide comfort to grieving family members during this profoundly difficult time."

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden led those who joined the grieving families at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to honor Rivers, 46, Sanders, 24, and Moffett, 23, all of whom hailed from Georgia.

More than 40 other troops were injured in the drone attack at Tower 22, a U.S. military desert outpost whose location allows U.S. forces to infiltrate and quietly leave Syria.
