Charlie Hebdo Attacker's Wife Resurfaces in Militant Magazine Interview

The wife of Charlie Hebdo shooter Amedy Coulibaly has resurfaced in an interview with a militant magazine after she disappeared in the wake of the massacre, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Hayat Boumeddiene is not mentioned by name in an interview with Dar-al-Islam, a French-language magazine, which notes she is now living behind the Islamic State (ISIS) lines in an area straddling Syria and Iraq.

"It is a good thing to live in a land that is governed by the laws of Allah," Boumeddiene reportedly says in the story, according to the Journal.

"I feel relieved to have accomplished this duty," she said.

The magazine is run by militants and is published online in several languages. The Journal notes that the ISIS militants are using Boumeddiene as propaganda as they publish the magazine to attract foreign recruits and energize their violent global cause, the Journal said.

Boumeddiene was driven to Madrid where she took a flight to Istanbul in the days before the Paris attacks that galvanized world support against the Islamic State terrorists. She was assisted on her trip by "a network of chaperones" the Journal said.

Boumeddiene was considered armed and dangerous as French police looked for her in the wake of the shootings, the New York Post reported, describing her as a burqa-wearing "blood-thirsty" brunette.

She reportedly trained with her husband at a jihadist camp outside Paris and was able to escape from the deli store shootings as Coulibaly lay dead and as hostages he had held escaped, the Post said.

The French-born woman, 26, had been shown in photos shooting a crossbow as she embraced a radicalized life, Mashable reported, noting that police had interviewed her in 2010 about Coulibaly and his connections to Islamist extremists.
