When the federal government takes on too many tasks, it harms its ability to handle basic needs of citizens, says Republican mega donor Charles Koch.

"As government takes on much more than it's able to handle, it uses force in areas where it does more harm than good, and undermines its ability to perform its basic functions," like keeping Americans safe, Koch said in a video, according to the Washington Examiner.

Schools and colleges are lacking success in exposing students to multiple opinions, he continued, because "as schools and universities clamp down on free speech and expose people only to a narrow set of ideas, they cultivate an intolerant, ill-informed citizenry," Koch said.

The United States must focus on making sure that schools, communities, businesses, and the government handle their roles successfully.

"When institutions drift from their productive roles like this, society begins to deteriorate and peoples' well-being declines," Koch said, according to the Examiner.

Koch was speaking ahead of a Colorado Springs weekend summit as part of the Seminar Network, an umbrella organization overseen by Koch and his brother David. Hundreds of conservative donors and Republican politicians will attend the summit, according to The Denver Post.
