Former "The Celebrity Apprentice" host Arnold Schwarzenegger might run for the Senate next year as a third-party candidate in California, his spokesman said Thursday.

"Right now, Gov. Schwarzenegger's focus is on using his platform to bring some sensibility and coherency to Washington by fighting for redistricting reform, like we did in California," Daniel Ketchell told Politico. "We are keeping all of our options open as far as how we can accomplish that."

Schwarzenegger, 69, a Republican, helmed the state's government from 2003 to 2011.

Golden State political circles are excited at the possibility of him serving in Washington with President Donald Trump in the White House, insiders told Politico.

"In politics after Donald Trump, nothing is crazy any longer," said Luis Alvarado, a former Republican political consultant. "We're in the third dimension here.

"Arnold Schwarzenegger, who actually has more political experience than Trump, would certainly seem to fit a mold to what some of the electorate would find attractive."

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein will be 85 and up for re-election next year, according to the report. She was first elected to Congress in 1991.

Schwarzenegger and Trump have recently battled on Twitter over "The New Celebrity Apprentice," of which the president serves as executive producer.
