Popular stand-up comic D.L. Hughley was feeling the heat Thursday after he made a tasteless quip about the tragic, back-to-back deaths of Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher.
Hughley took to Twitter following the passing of the "Singing in the Rain" star, who died Wednesday, just a day after her daughter, who portrayed Princess Leia in the original "Star Wars" films. He wrote:
That prompted an avalanche of angry missives from people who did not find Hughley — who hosts a syndicated radio show and once competed on "Dancing with the Stars" — the least bit funny:
Reynolds, 84, died of an apparent stroke, which she suffered while planning the funeral of her daughter, who had succumbed a day earlier at the age of 60 following a heart attack aboard a commercial jet.
Hughley is the second celebrity this week to get into hot water over Fisher's death.
Veteran comic Steve Martin tweeted Tuesday:
"When I was a young man, Carrie Fisher was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. She turned out to be witty and bright as well."
The white-haired funnyman later deleted the post after a barrage of complaints.
