A California man has been arrested after a co-worker reported that he threatened a shooting at his workplace, a hotel near Long Beach Airport south of downtown Los Angeles, NBC News reports.
According to law enforcement officials, Rodolfo Montoya, 37, was arrested after he allegedly communicated a threat on the Marriott hotel where he worked to another employee, who reported it to police. Long Beach Police Chief Robert G. Luna said that Montoya had multiple high-powered weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, as well as “clear plans, intent and the means to carry out an act of violence that may have resulted in a mass casualty incident.”
Montoya, a cook at the hotel, has been charged with the manufacture and distribution of assault weapons, possession of an assault weapon, and making a criminal threat. He was reportedly upset about problems he’d had with the hotel’s human resources department.
"He's alleged to have said ... he was going to shoot up fellow employees and people coming into the hotel," Luna said. "So, he had a plan of shooting everybody that he saw in the hotel."
Luna added, "How far away were we from this guy acting out, that's part of the questioning that we’re going through right now.”
