Thousands of gun-control advocates crossed the Brooklyn Bridge in New York on Saturday in the "Youth Over Guns" march to protest recent school shootings in Texas, Florida and in other states.
Demonstrators called on legislators to stand up to gun violence and urged other young people to join their cause.
The protest followed National Gun Violence Awareness Day on Friday and came two weeks after a gunman killed 10 people in a rampage at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas.
Ramon Contreras, 19, a co-founder of the march, emphasized the need for more young people to become involved.
"Gun violence extends beyond the pull of a trigger," he told WABC-TV in New York.
"Some of the roots, it goes to a lack of funding, and lack of effort towards our public school educational system and lack of funding towards local gun violence prevention groups who work on this issue for years now and work on the ground with students.
"They are getting the funding and attention that they need," Contreras said.
Many participants, wearing orange shirts and carrying signs, tweeted from the march.
