As many as 7,712 "terrorist encounters" occurred inside the United States in one year, leaked FBI documents revealed on Monday.
The documents, which have been obtained by Breitbart Texas, also showed many of those encounters occurred near the U.S.-Mexico border and were tagged as "Known or Suspected Terrorist Encounters."
While some of the encounters were noted to have taken place at ports-of-entry near the U.S.-Mexico border, others occurred in between, the report said. It further revealed the encounters were more in numbers in Border States.
The documents, which are labelled "Unclassified/Law Enforcement Sensitive," includes information from Terrorist Screening Center, the FBI-monitored organization which maintains the "Terror Watch List."
Some parts of the document incorporate information on the entire country; others focus on the state of Arizona.
The detailed document comprises information regarding the encounters through illustrations, maps, pie charts and diagrams.
Page Two carries a U.S. map of different states along with their number of encounters. It can be inferred that states sharing their border with Mexico namely Texas, California, and Arizona, had the maximum number of encounters.
The next page of the document displayed a map of encounter points in the state of Arizona. On the map, Phoenix, a major destination point for people who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border, showed the majority.
In another page, a pie chart revealed that the majority of encounters in Arizona were with Islamic known or suspected terrorists — both Sunni and Shi'a. While 85 encounters were Sunni, 56 were Shi'a, 70 were categorized as "Other International Terrorist Groups or Affiliates," and 52 were with "Domestic Terrorism."
