The Pentagon is maintaining a "boxer's stance" in military "readiness" in the wake of President Donald Trump abrupt cancellation of a planned June 12 summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un, according to a Pentagon general.

"Right now we are in a level of good readiness," said Lt. Gen. Frank McKenzie, director of the Pentagon's Joint Staff, the Washington Examiner reported. "We're in a boxer's stance. We're ready to respond. We'll see what develops over the next few days."

"If any provocative actions occur from [the Democratic People's Republic of Korea] we'll certainly in concert with our partners and allies in the region be ready for it," he said, the Examiner reported.

The Pentagon's chief spokesperson, Dana White, asserted the military posture has not changed, the Examiner reported.

"We are still continuing the maximum pressure campaign – that hasn't changed," White said. "We are ready to fight tonight" — the slogan of U.S. troops station in South Korea, the Examiner noted.

White told the Examiner that Trump had talked Thursday morning to both Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford, who were in Colorado attending a change of command ceremony for the U.S. Northern Command.
