The Boston Herald endorsed Chris Christie for president on Monday, saying the New Jersey governor can channel the anger felt by the electorate while having the necessary experience to get things done.
The editorial board took a swipe that appeared to be aimed at front-runner Donald Trump when it said, "The more the need for real leadership — at home and on the world stage — became obvious, the more our politics descended into farce.
"The anger of American voters is genuine. We get that," the Herald wrote. "But the antidote to incompetence in the White House is not more incompetence. Haven’t we learned the hard way that the Oval Office is no place for on-the-job training?"
The Herald said it leaned toward a governor for its choice, and picked Christie over Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush because Christie has worked with an opposition party to get things done and has "that Jersey guy attitude — feisty but not mean-spirited, tough but not hateful."
Christie's experience as a federal prosecutor also shows he knows how to take on terrorism, according to the endorsement. "And he’s certainly not reluctant to talk about where this nation has gone astray on the international front."
Christie also has been endorsed by the New Hampshire Union Leader.
