Thirty-four percent of Republicans say they would contribute money to help pay for President Donald Trump's wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a poll conducted by conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports.

Additionally, 43 percent of those who want the U.S. to build a wall said they would put forward their own money. Among all voters, only 21 percent said they would pay to fund the wall.

Trump is seeking $5 billion in funding, but he does not have the votes from the Republican-led Congress to support it. Democrats are offering to continue funding at current levels of $1.3 billion but have stipulated the money be used for fencing and additional border security.

Both sides have until Friday to come to an agreement and avoid a government shutdown.

The poll, conducted Dec. 12-13 among 1,000 likely voters, also found that voters continue to believe illegal immigration is a major problem. Fifty-six percent said they are not willing to pay more in taxes each year to battle the issue, though, compared to 19 percent who said they are willing to pay an extra $100 each year. Another 19 percent are willing to pay an extra $300 or more each year.
